Aiken Get Square with Mosaic July 15 - August 25 Welcome to mosaic in a square way. This workshop will cover all the basic information for the beginning student, starting with the first portion of 4 x 4 tile projects. Once you gain your confidence, you can choose to create the mirror project as well. Kits are available for purchase, choose which ones you'd like to do. You will learn about the process of creating a mosaic piece; cutting, adhesion, and tile layout. Students will be introduced to materials such as glass tile, art glass, china, ceramic tile, and more. Students are encouraged to experiment with color and texture to discover the possibilities of mosaic. About: Laura K. Aiken can't remember a time when she didn't love to color and to this day she hasn't changed. Creativity is a big part of Laura's life, and she has to create, and she loves to create for others. Laura has been playing with mosaic work since 2002 and drawing and painting playfully since she could hold a crayon. She lives with her husband Chris who had no idea what he was getting into when he married her, and a son James who is trying to understand his mother now that's he is twenty. Her assistant Gracie, the talking cat, is beautiful but an almost a worthless worker except for posing for photographs. Laura K. Aiken's artwork has been featured in books, magazines publications and on HGTV-Home and Gardens Network to name a few. Her works can also be seen in churches, schools and several businesses around the United States and Europe. Her studio where she teaches her workshops is located in beautiful Heritage Historic District in downtown Greenville, South Carolina. Mosaic Art by Laura K. Ever looked a the clouds, as a child, and found a shape of a cat or a figure of a lady? Well, that is what this workshop is all about! You will be finding your own style just by painting and creating new layers. Your shapes will be whimsical and funky You will learn about design and color, recycling art & using what you have on hand and to just let go! It's a "stress free", "free flowing" day of fun. Great for groups but please make your reservation asap as there is limited seating. No experience necessary.

New Class and Time

Remember how much fun it was to create your 4 x 4 inch mosaic?  Maybe you have taken my Mosaic Mirror class before and would like to create another.  Well, now we are taking it to a second level. I am offering another class that will include a 10 x 10 inch mirror and use of all the supplies. This will be an all day workshop where you can take your mirror home in the same day. You will be working with the same technique as used before, no grouting….

Mosaics for the Absolute Beginner

From June 6 to July 17

Welcome to the world of mosaics, the Laura way! This approximately 3 hour introductory class will introduce beginners to the basics of mosaic creating: the astonishing array of materials and adhesives, design and composition, and the cutting and laying of tile.

Supplies such as glass tile, ceramic tile, sheet glass, and china are available from vendors on the supply list, which will be included with paid class. No prior art experience is necessary, just an openness to numerous possibilities that you can create with mosaic art. This will be a fun and relaxing experience! This class does not include grouting techniques, but does include instructions for two 4x4” mosaic blocks. Patterns will also be included. I look forward to meeting you!

Introduction to Mosaic with a Twist

From July 15 - August 25

This informative class will cover all the basic information students will need to finish a 10 x 10 inch mirror project. This 2 to 3 hour class will include patterns to follow and is intended for a more seasoned beginner who wants to learn more on the process of creating a mosaic piece; cutting, adhesion, tile layout, and grouting. Students will be introduced to materials such as glass tile, art glass, china, ceramic tile, and more. Students are encouraged to experiment with color and texture to discover the possibilities of mosaic. A supply list will be included at signup with a resource for vendors. Grouting techniques will be included. Let’s get ready to have fun!

This is a fun class where students will be using a varied of mediums including, brown paper, pencils, watercolors, colored pencils, stamps and mixed medium collage. Learn new techniques using materials that you already have at home.
Do you remember as a child finding objects in the clouds? This is basically what PULLED ART is about. It’s not complicated. Maybe you have even done this before?
Your shapes will be whimsical and funky. You will not be striving for perfection but objects.
You will learn about design and color, recycling art, using what you have on hand and to just let go!

An example would be a table, window, portrait, or mural.  I highly recommend that you take the beginner workshop first, before attempting a large project.

Now offering, a chance for you to continue your love for glass without having your own kiln. I prefer that you be a past fusing student of mine to take advantage of this offering.
Studio time with glass included (scraps for jewelry or tiles) $45 by appointment 1 hour no instructor.  You will work in my studio on your own.

Firing pieces that you bring in: $25 up to 10 small pieces. Ready on Tuesdays.

Mosaic Art Now has a blog! I thought I had announced this wonderful news, but it seems that's all I did...think it! Bill, Michael and Nancie are doing a fabulous job keeping us up to date with beautiful mosaic articles and photos. You don't want to miss this blog if you are a mosaic lover.
